Description
Tamiya X-35 Semi Gloss Clear 10 ml – acrylic satin varnish for sealing and finishing
Tamiya X-35 is an acrylic clear coat with a satin finish that protects the paint, evens out the sheen and leaves the surface ready for techniques such as washes, panel lining or pigments. It’s the ideal middle ground between X-22 Clear (gloss) and XF-86 Flat Clear (matt).
What it’s for
- Sealing decals: reduces silvering and locks in the decal film before washes.
- Levelling the finish: corrects patchy gloss between parts and colours.
- Protection: creates a durable film that resists handling and light weathering.
Airbrush use
As a starting point, mix 1:1 (X-35 : X-20A) for a 0.3 mm nozzle at around 12–18 PSI. Spray in thin, misted coats, allowing it to flash off between passes until you reach the satin level you want. For ultra-fine layers, thin further to 1:1.5–1:2.
Brush application
Thin slightly with X-20A and lay it down without overworking the area to avoid brush marks. Work in thin coats and avoid going back over areas that have already started to settle.
Compatibility
- Compatible with: Tamiya X/XF ranges and other water/alcohol-based acrylics.
- Do not use as thinner for: enamels or lacquers. If you need a pure gloss, use X-22 Clear; for a matt finish, choose XF-86 Flat Clear.
- Cleaning: flush the airbrush with X-20A and finish with a dedicated cleaner from our airbrush accessories.
Quick tips
- Thin, successive coats: avoid flooding panel lines and rivets.
- Before and after decals: apply a light coat of X-35 before placing decals, and another one to seal them in.
- Environment: spray in a well-ventilated area and use appropriate protective gear.
